Netflix series The Crown is most expensive TV show ever
Brand new Netflix series, The Crown, has reported to be the most expensive TV show ever made.
The series, which will debut on Netflix on November 4th, reportedly cost $130 million, making it the most expensive series of television ever.
The Crown is an adaptation of the 2013 play The Audience, which tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II from when she ascends to the throne right up to the present day.
The series is being overseen by the creative team behind the 2006 biopic The Queen and directed by Stephen Daldry, of Billy Elliot fame.
Claire Foy stars as Elizabeth with Matt Smith of Doctor Who fame playing Prince Phillip.
The Crown is expected to run for 6 seasons, according to the crew who worked on it, meaning that the overall cost will expand even further.
Specific props and setting for the series have been priced, with a recreation of the Queen's wedding dress costing $35,000 alone.
Other expenses include 7000 costumes for the cast and background characters along with a lifesize set of Buckingham Palace.
Peter Morgan, screenwriter for the series, said that he was happy to be working with the same people as The Queen.
“The Crown is not only about the royal family but about an empire in decline, a world in disarray and the dawn of a new era. I am beyond thrilled to be reunited with partners from film, theatre, and television for this epic project and delighted to be working for the first time with Netflix."
The Crown will be available to watch from November 4th. For all the best deals for Netflix, check out Digital TV.
