Spotify miniseries in the works at Netflix
It'll explore how the Swedish music streaming service came to be.
Netflix has announced they’re developing a scripted series which will tell the founding story of wildly popular music streaming service Spotify.
The project, which currently doesn’t have a title, will be based on the 2019 non-fiction book Spotify Untold by business journalists Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud.
Per-Olav Sørensen, who’s behind Netflix’s Swedish-language mystery series Quicksand, is to direct all of the episodes.
As to be expected from something in such early stages, a cast or official release date has yet to be announced.
Along with its origin story, the series will explore how Spotify has changed the way we listened to music over the past decade.
The streaming service was launched in 2006 by Swedish tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek and his business partner Martin Lorentzo, at a time when music piracy was at its height.
It went onto reach a staggering level of success and currently boasts 248 million monthly active users worldwide.
“I’m thrilled to be making this timely and entertaining series for Netflix. The story of how a small band of Swedish tech industry insiders transformed music – how we listen to it and how it’s made – is truly a tale for our time.” said executive producer Berna Levin.
