Netflix to develop Cyberpunk 2077 anime
The series will arrive sometime in 2022.
An anime series based on the upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works at Netflix.
Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, it will see the streaming service partner with the game’s developer CD Projekt Red and Japanese animation studio Studio Trigger.
Instead of being a straight adaptation of the game or some kind of prequel, the ten episode series will tell an original story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
According to CD Projekt Red’s official synopsis it'll follow "a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.”
“Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner - a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
Studio Trigger is notable amongst anime fans for having been founded by some of the team who worked on the beloved 90s series Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the year’s most anticipated video game titles being the first from CD Projekt Red after 2015’s critically-acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will premiere on Netflix in 2022.
