New Sex And The City series in development
Could Carrie and co. be headed back to the screen?
A new series based on the Sex And The City sequel novel is in the works.
The book, titled Is There Still Sex In The City? is due to be published on August 6th, with Paramount Television already snapping up the rights to it.
The bidding for the rights was reportedly very competitive, with Paramount eventually seeing off all other production companies.
Candace Bushnell, the author of the book, is set to write the scripts for the series pilot as well as acting as executive producer.
Nicole Clemens, president of Paramount TV, said that the original book was a cultural touchstone for her, making the acquisition a no-brainer.
“The original ‘Sex And The City’ book and series served as a groundbreaking touchstone for an entire generation of women, myself included.
“We’re thrilled to be able to continue that conversation from the underrepresented point of view of women in their 50s and answer the question with, ‘Yes! There is more sex in the city!’”
The original SATC series was one of HBO’s earliest successes, running for 6 seasons and starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.
Whilst it’s not known if the new series will be a direct follow-up, the fact that HBO has not bought the rights suggests it might be its own beast.
