New Sky Sports Mix channel to offer free live sport

Sky has announced that it is launching a new sports channel that Sky customers can watch at no extra charge.

Sky Sports Mix will offer a range of live sports from across Sky's sports channels and will be available free for all Sky TV customers, regardless of package.

Sky Sports Mix will showcase a number of different sports and competitions, including the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers, gold from Europe and the US and international cricket.

Viewers will also be able to catch select Barclay's Premier League and Football League games, something that's usually exclusive to Sky Sports subscriptions.

Women's sport is also set to get coverage thanks to Sky Sports Mix. Live women's golf, cricket and netball will all be shown live at some point once the channel launches.

As well as live sports coverage, Sky Sports Mix is also due to air a number of original programs, including documentaries, sports entertainment shows and other sporting content.

Managing director for Sky Sports, Barney Francis, claimed that the new channel would put sport into more homes than ever.

“With Sky Sports Mix, we are giving millions more people access to great moments from some of the world's biggest sporting events at no extra cost. It is a fantastic way for all Sky customers to be able to enjoy some of the great content that has made Sky Sports the first choice for sport.

“Sky Sports Mix will bring sport to more people and provide many different ways of enjoying our coverage, from high profile live events and fascinating documentaries to clips of incredible moments. Our aim is to offer sport in a way that can engage, encourage and excite everyone even further.”

Sky Sports Mix will air alongside Sky Sports News, another free sports channel, which gets an annual reach of 17 million viewers.

The paid Sky Sports subscription will continue to air some of the most anticipated sport exclusively, including 126 Barclay's Premier League games and the Ryder Cup.
