The Office US reboot "not impossible" says showrunner
Although a reboot of the series isn't currently in the pipeline, Greg Daniels said he'd be up for it.
Former The Office US showrunner Greg Daniels has not ruled out a reboot of the sitcom.
When asked if one was in active development by Collider at a press day for new US-only streaming service Peacock, he responded:
“No but it’s not impossible. It’s not impossible for sure. I would want to be involved, and I’ve got two other shows I’m working on right now.”
Daniels currently serves as showrunner on both Netflix’s Space Force and Amazon’s afterlife comedy Upload both of which have been renewed for a second season.
Star Steve Carrell previously told the website that he didn’t think a reboot of The Office US would be a good idea as, in his mind, it would never be able to match the quality of the original.
Fan favourites Rainn Wilson and John Kransinki have however both said that they’d be on board for a reboot and would love to return to their roles.
Daniels adapted The Office US from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s British original and served as showrunner for its first four seasons.
He handed over duties to Paul Lieberstein for seasons 5 through 8 so he could create sitcom Parks and Recreation before returning for its final run in 2013.
You can stream all nine seasons of The Office US on Netflix now.
