Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey to star in HBO's The Last of Us
Released for PS3 in 2013, The Last of Us is widely considered to be one of the best video games ever made.
Game of Thrones’s Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will star in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of popular video game The Last of Us.
Co-creator Neil Druckmann, who served as the game’s writer and creative director, and developer Naughty Dog both confirmed the casting on Twitter.
The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the US twenty years after a deadly fungus spread rapidly across the country and turned much of the population into dangerous zombie-like creatures known as The Infected.
It follows Joel (Pascal) who must escort teenager Ellie (Ramsey) outside of the safe quarantine zone to a group of the rebel militia known as The Fireflies who will use her immunity to develop a cure.
Druckman will also serve as a writer on the series alongside Craig Menzin who created the hauntingly brilliant Chernobyl. Russian director Kantemir Balagov will helm the pilot episode
“Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium and The Last of Us is his magnum opus,” said Mazin when the show was first announced in March 2020.
“Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honoured to do it in partnership with Neil.”
The Last of Us is seen as one of the the best video games ever created having received universal acclaim from critics and selling in excess of 20 million copies.
A release date for The Last of Us is not yet known.
