PEN15 to end after two seasons

The acclaimed comedy was initially set to run for 3 seasons but the COVID-19 pandemic has derailed those plans.

Acclaimed comedy PEN15 is to end after its second season.

A representative from US streaming service Hulu, who originally commissioned the show, said that creators and stars Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle “feel the story they wanted to tell has come to an end with the upcoming second half of Season 2.”

“Hulu will continue to leave the door open for more PEN15 in the future and look forward to working with [Erskine and Konkle] again.”

The announcement comes as quite a surprise given both critical acclaim that the show has received and the pair’s previously announced plan for a three season arc.

The COVID-19 pandemic was reportedly a big factor in their decision to end the show with the safety precautions which are now required on set making filming much more difficult.

Additionally, Erskine and Konkle are keen to take a break from the series that they’ve spent more than a decade working on, having both landed major roles in other upcoming projects.

Erskine is set to appear as an as yet unknown character in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi while Konkle will play a supporting part in indie comedy Together, Together

Seasons one and 2b of PEN15 are now available to stream with the NOW Entertainment Membership which costs £9.99 a month.
