Poldark season four begins filming

The new season is set to air sometime in 2018.

Filming for the highly-anticipated fourth season of popular period-drama Poldark is now officially underway, the BBC have confirmed.

It's set to take place in a variety of locations across Cornwall, Bristol and London over the next few months for a release date sometime in 2018.

Set in 1976, the new season will see Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) embark on a “political journey” to the capital as he attempts to defend his beloved Cornwall from the newly powerful George Warleggan (Jack Farthing).

Meanwhile, wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) will struggle to stay loyal and Elizabeth, Dwight and Caroline all experience their own marital problems.

"We were hugely gratified by the massive amount of love the audience felt for series three,” said executive producer Karen Thrussell. "We hope this will be our strongest series yet, with eight brilliant scripts from Debbie Horsfield, a whole new world of stories and our very wonderful cast.”

Season four will also introduce a new character named Lady Whitworth (Rebecca Front, best known as Nicola Murray MP from BBC2 sweary political sitcom The Thick of It) who is the powerful and formidable mother of Reverend Osbourne (Christian Brassington).
