Queen and Slim's Jodie Turner-Smith to play Anne Boleyn
The Channel 5 series will take a look at the final few months of the Queen's life from her perspective.
Star of Queen and Slim Jodie Turner-Smith is to play Anne Boelyn in a new miniseries.
The currently untitled show has been described as feminist psychological thriller which is set during the final months of the Queen’s life.
It will explore her struggle to survive in the patriarchal society of the day plus her attempts to secure a good future for her daughter, the future Queen Elizabeth I.
Anne Boelyn was the second wife of King Henry VIII who was falsely accused of adultery and treason after failing to provide him with a male heir. She was subsequently executed at the Tower of London in May 1536.
Set to star alongside Turner-Smith is I May Destroy You’s Paapa Essiedu, Amanda Burton, Thalissa Teixeira, Barry Ward and Jamael Westman.
Newcomer Eve Hedderwick Turner will write the script with Lynsey Miller, who’s also responsible for the David Tennant-led crime-drama Deadwater Fell, to direct all three episodes.
“I am so excited to join these exciting filmmakers in bringing the story of one of history’s most controversial queens to the screen,” said Turner-Smith. “I look forward to bringing my heart and spirit into this daring retelling of the fall of this iconic woman.”
