Russian Doll renewed for season 2
The first series debuted to critical acclaim earlier this year.
Netflix has renewed its time travel comedy-drama Russian Doll for a second season.
It’s return was confirmed by star Natasha Lyonne during an on-stage interview at the CODE Conference in Arizona on Tuesday.
“Want to do a season two, Natasha?” asked Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content.
“Me, Cindy? Same show, just weirder? Are you sure?” Lyonne replied. “Nadia Vulvokov is a coder, as you know, so I guess it would be somewhat appropriate to maybe have this be the time and place to say yes, very much so, I would love to do that, Cindy.”
The series will once again consist of eight half-an-hour episodes.
Co-created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, Russian Doll tells the story of a woman who becomes trapped in an endless time loop, being forced to relive the night of her 36th birthday party over and over again after repeatedly dying.
Greta Lee, Yul Vazquez, Charlie Barnett and Elizabeth Ashley also starred with Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco and Brendan Sexton III appearing in guest roles.
It received critical acclaim upon its release in February 2019 with particular praise being directed toward Lyonne’s performance and its inventive tone.
