Safe creator signs exclusive Netflix deal

The Safe writer will adapt more of his works for Netflix.

The creator of Safe, Harlan Coben, has signed onto a huge deal with Netflix.

The crime author has agreed to help adapt 14 of his works into projects for the streaming platform, which will include both TV series and films.

The writer currently has two different series on Netflix, including 2015’s No Second Chance and this year’s Safe, starring Michael C Hall.

Coben has published 30 novels in his career, which have sold around 70 million copies worldwide, meaning there’s a lot to adapt from.

The writer will act as executive producer on the projects and said that his work on Safe spurred him to make the deal.

"I loved working with the Netflix team on Safe, and seeing the fantastic audience response around the world. I'm thrilled to continue our relationship to create more original films and series with them on a global scale."

Corben is the latest creator to partner with Netflix for a large number of projects. American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy last year signed up with a similar deal though to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The writer has said that a second season of Safe is unlikely as it’s a standalone story.

"I don't think it would be fair to start a series where there's a murder, and a girl goes missing, and this whole community clearly is blowing up with secrets... and then not give you all the answers.

"That's not how I do series. It's fine for other people, but it's just not how I work. If there's a season two... well, I would doubt it."

You can watch all of Safe on Netflix right now.
