Sex and the City revival in the works
Only three of the core cast will be back as Kim Cattrall has declined to be involved.
A revival of Sex and the City has been greenlight by US streaming service HBO Max.
Titled Just Like That, it will see original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis reprise their iconic roles as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte.
The trio confirmed the series’ return across various social media platforms last night with Parker posting a special announcement trailer to her Instagram.
Noticeably absent is Kim Cattrall who played fan favourite Samantha and has declined to appear in this new series.
No explicit reason was given for her departure but she and Parker have been publicly feuding for a number of years. In an interview in October 2017, Cattrall said that although she loved the part she had “played it past the finish line and then some.”
Just Like That will consist of ten half an hour episodes with Michael Patrick King, who directed several episodes and helmed both feature films, serving as executive producer.
Original creator Darren Starr is also not involved with the revival and the search is currently underway for a new showrunner.
"I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of originals at HBO Max.
All six seasons of Sex and the City are available to stream on NOW TV.
