Sky Atlantic reveals UK premiere date for Young Pope
The new Italian drama is about to launch onto UK screens.
Italian director and Academy Award winner Paolo Sorrentino's first miniseries The Young Pope is set to receive its UK debut on Sky Atlantic on Thursday 27th October at 9pm, it has been confirmed.
Starring British actor Jude Law, this original drama tells the fictional story of the first American Pope Pius XIII newly elected to power through the formidable scheming of his mentor Cardinal Michael Spencer (James Cromwell) who along with the darkly ambitious Cardinal Voiello (Silvio Orlando) mistakenly assumes that the headstrong Pius can be controlled.
Also starring is Diane Keaton as Sister Mary, who acts as a kind of mother figure to Pius, Scott Shepard as Cardinal Dussolier, Javier Camara as Cardinal Gutierrez and Cecile De France as Sofia Dubois, Director of Marketing at the Vatican City.
The miniseries is a co-production between Sky, Canal+ and American TV giant HBO with production credit going to Wildside and Haut Court TV (who were behind critically acclaimed zombie drama The Returned).
Early reviews for the series have been very positive with critics praising Law's work in the lead role and the dreamy dark atmosphere that Sorrentino has managed to create.
October is a busy month for Sky Atlantic having seen the launch of critically acclaimed sci-fi Westworld and the new Sarah Jessica Parker led comedy-drama Divorce.
