Sky partners with Channel 4 for F1 highlights

Channel 4 will show F1 highlights from next season.

Sky has entered a partnership with Channel 4 to offer F1 racing highlights and more.

This new partnership will allow Channel 4 to broadcast highlights from the F1 season, which Sky currently has exclusive rights to.

Channel 4 will also be able to broadcast the British Grand Prix at the same time as Sky Sports F1.

Channel 4 previously held the rights to F1 coverage before it was bought by Sky a few years ago.

The standard channel currently broadcasts select Grand Prix, but a changing deal between Sky and F1 will mean that they can only show the British GP from 2019 onwards.

Alongside F1 coverage, the new partnership between the two channels means that some drama series will be shared between them.

Sky Original production Tin Star will now air on Channel 4 later this year and selected Channel 4 shows will appear on NOW TV, the first of which is the drama No Offence.

CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon, said that he was excited by the combined efforts of the two channels.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to establish such an exciting and innovative partnership with Sky which will ensure that the British Grand Prix and highlights of the 2019 Formula 1 Championship remain available on free-to-air television for UK viewers.”

CEO of Sky, Stephen van Rooyen, added that the deal was unprecedented in UK television.

“Today’s partnership is the start of a new era of collaboration between Sky, Channel 4 and, we hope, other British broadcasters. Not only will this innovative partnership benefit viewers, watching via Sky or free-to-air, but it will further strengthen the ecosystem of UK broadcasters and British originated content.”
