Sky Sports secures rights to featured England matches

Sky Sports has exclusive rights to a new competition.

Sky Sports has won the rights to broadcast competitive England matches as part of the UEFA Nations League.

The agreement means that Sky Sports will have exclusive rights to the new competition which is expected to air next year.

The UEFA Nations League is a new competition that follows the league style, with European national teams playing for a top 4 spot which will result in a knockout tournament.

The Nations League will also set the seedings for the qualifiers for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

As well as this, Sky Sports has also gained the rights to a number of England's qualifying matches for both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

This means that Sky Sports will feature up to 900 live matches between 2018 and 2022.

Managing Director of Sky Sports, Barney Francis, said that these matches were a big get for Sky Sports.

“Showing England in competitive matches exclusively live for the first time in seven years is great news for our viewers with the UEFA Nations League putting the top nations against each other regularly.

“Added to the recent success of Wales and Northern Ireland in reaching major tournaments, there is even more reason to follow the Home Nations on Sky Sports.”

All of the Euro 2016 qualifiers were shown on Sky Sports, including matches from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, with 3 of those nations qualifying for the tournament.

These matches add to Sky Sports' large lineup of exclusive Premier League games.
