Sky Sports set to show cricket in Ultra HD

4K TV owners can experience cricket this summer.

Sky Sports has announced that it will show cricket coverage in Ultra HD for the first time this summer.

England's Test series against South Africa will be broadcast in Ultra HD, with the full series running from July into August.

Spanning four matches, the Test series will form part of Sky's biggest summer of sport ever, with stunning Ultra HD graphics adding to the experience.

Ultra HD is an improvement over standard HD and is optimised for HDR and 4K TVs exclusively.

As well as cricket, Sky Sports subscribers can enjoy a huge number of sports coverage this summer, including the ICC Champions, the British and Irish Lions tour and The Open.

Sky Sports Head of Cricket, Bryan Henderson, said that Ultra HD would improve cricket coverage ten-fold.

“With Ultra HD, customers can enjoy the four Test matches, with four times better picture quality and four times greater clarity. It is a first for Sky Sports and we can't wait to bring you closer to the action, excitement and drama that the South Africa Test series will deliver this summer.”

Ultra HD is also available with a number of other sports broadcasts, with Sky Sports customers able to watch every F1 Grand Prix and 124 Premier League matches in Ultra HD throughout this season and the next.

Sky Sports customers can check out cricket and other sports coverage in Ultra HD with a 2TB Sky Q Box.
