Spider-Man: Homecoming has huge opening weekend

The latest reboot has done well at the box office.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is on-track to pull in over $250 million in its opening weekend.

The latest of Marvel's gargantuan superhero film series, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the third incarnation of the webslinger in under 10 years, with Marvel recently reclaiming the film rights from Sony.

Despite trepidation from fans and critics before its release, the film has garnered largely positive reviews alongside a hugely successful opening weekend.

Spider-Man has historically always done well at the box office, with even the critically panned Spider-Man 3 raking in nearly $900 million and the very poor Amazing Spider-Man 2 managing over $700 million.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees the web-slinger reimagined in the Marvel universe, with the action happening in a post-Avengers world and Iron Man acting as a mentor to Peter Parker.

The film has Spidey come to blows with Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), a brilliant scientist who wants revenge against the Avengers for putting him out of business.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has had a massive marketing campaign, with TV and online trailers getting a lot of airtime in the run-up to the film's release.

Despite the success of the film so far, it still pales in comparison to this year's biggest films, Beauty and the Beast and The Fate of the Furious, both of which have gone on to gross over a billion dollars worldwide.

If you're looking for some Spidey action you can tune into at home, the original Spider-Man trilogy is available to stream on NOW TV right now, with The Amazing Spider-Man available on Netflix.
