Spiderverse producers to create new Marvel TV universe
TV series based around Spiderman and several of his villains are in the works.
The producers of Spiderman: Into the Spider Verse have signed a deal with Sony to create an entirely new universe of Marvel TV shows.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller will develop an unconfirmed number of projects revolving around the Marvel characters owned by Sony.
This includes the hero Spider-Man and a few of his most well-known villains like Venom, vampire Morbius, professional thief Black Cat and mercenary Silver Sable.
As the deal has only just been signed, there’s no word on casting, who will direct these series or whether they’ll be animated like Spiderverse.
Former Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal, who produced 2017’s well-received Spiderman: Homecoming, has confirmed she’ll be involved in some capacity.
Films featuring all of these villains are also currently in development at Sony, with Morbius starring Academy-Award winner Jared Leto set to be released in 2020.
Prior to winning an Academy-Award for Spiderverse, Lord and Miller directed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the excellent 21 and 22 Jump Street.
