Star Wars: Rogue One series planned

The prequel to the prequel will be a Disney+ original.

A new Star Wars series is being planned by Disney for its upcoming streaming service.

The series will act as a prequel to the film Rogue One, which itself is a prequel to the original Star Wars movie.

The series will follow the character Cassian Andor, portrayed by Diego Luna, who featured in the film.

The announcement was made by Disney CEO Bob Iger in a conference call to investors.

A statement from Disney sheds some light onto what the series will actually be about.

“[T]he rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

The series will be one of Disney’s original shows on its streaming platform Disney+.

Disney+ will feature a number of different shows, including fellow Star Wars series The Mandalorian and a Marvel show revolving around Tom Hiddlestone’s Loki.

As well as original programming, Disney is planning to remove all of its content from streaming services such as Netflix in order to host it itself. This will include all Disney and Pixar animated movies and both the Marvel and Star Wars films.

Netflix’s exclusive Marvel shows, such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones, are planned to be left alone, providing they don’t get cancelled.

Disney+ is planned to roll out in the US in late 2019 and will almost certainly arrive in the UK at some point, though it is not yet known how this will work with companies like Sky.
