Stephen Dorff to star in True Detective season 3

The Blade actor will appear in the upcoming new season.

Stephen Dorff has been confirmed to star in True Detective season 3.

The actor, who is perhaps best known for portraying Deacon Frost in 1998's vampire action film Blade, will star alongside Mahershala Ali in the new season of the crime series.

Dorff will reportedly play Roland West, and Arkansas State Investigator who works with Ali's characters in order to solve a crime that has been with confounding him for 3 decades.

The announcement comes among news that filming for True Detective season 3 is set to start in February.

The show will be filmed in Arkansas, with the season supposedly set in the Ozarks. Information about the new season has been kept under tight wraps, though we know that Mahershala Ali will be playing a detective named Wayne Hays and that Carmen Ejogo will play a teach connected to children who went missing in the ‘80s - part of season 3's enduring mystery.

Jeremy Saulnier, who directed recent hit thrillers Blue Ruin and Green Room, is set to share directing duties with series creator Nick Pizzolatto.

With the information we have so far, it sounds like True Detective will be going back to its roots of grim goings-on in America's backwoods, rather than continuing the LA noir style of season 2.

Season 2 of the series was widely different to the first, focusing more on government corruption and gangsters than cultist murders. Whilst it was not well received, it did do a number of things effectively.

You can catch the first season of True Detective right now on Sky Box Sets and via the NOW TV Entertainment Pass.
