Stephen King miniseries The Stand drops first trailer
The Stand is just one of the many King adaptations set to premiere over the next few years.
The first trailer for post-apocalyptic series The Stand has been released by US streaming service CBS All Access.
Adapted from the celebrated Stephen King book of the same name, it’s set in a world where 99.9% of the human population has died of a superflu called Captain Trips.
The survivors then split into groups of good and evil, which are led by a mystical elderly woman named Mother Abigail (Whoopi Goldberg) and the demonic supernatural entity Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård) respectively.
This adaptation is set to be fairly faithful to King’s book, which is widely regarded as the horror master’s best, and fans will be pleased to see several scenes in the two minute clip that have been lifted directly from the novel.
The most significant change will come at the end however as King and his son Owen are set to write an entirely new conclusion to the story.
Also set to star alongside Goldberg and Skarsgård is James Marsden, Odessa Young, Jovan Adepo, Amber Heard, Henry Zaga, Nat Wolff and Owen Teague.
The Stand was both created and written by Josh Boone, who also helmed this year’s long delayed X-Men spinoff The New Mutants, and Benjamin Cavell.
The first episode will premiere in the US on 17th December 2020 with the remaining nine episodes set to follow weekly.
A UK release date is not yet known.
