Steven Moffat’s Dracula series announced

The Sherlock creator is back with another literary adaptation.

BBC One has officially announced a new series by Doctor Who and Sherlock writer Steven Moffat.

The series will be based on the classic gothic novel by Bram Stoker and will see Moffat and his writing partner Mark Gatiss initially creating 3 90-minute episodes.

The series has been rumoured for a long time but this is the first time that the BBC has officially announced it.

Dracula will be set in the same time period as the novel, meaning it won’t be a modern adaptation like Sherlock was.

Whether the show will go on longer than the planned 3 episodes is yet to be seen, but if it’s popular enough you can expect it to stretch beyond the limitations of the novel.

The Controller of Drama at the BBC, Piers Wenger, said that this version of Dracula would bring something exciting to the classic story.

“Steven and Mark’s ingenious vision for Dracula is as clever as it is chilling. In their talented hands, the fans will experience the power of Bram Stoker’s creation as if completely anew. We are thrilled to be collaborating with them and the brilliant team at Hartswood on yet another iconic British series.”

The series is a co-production between the BBC and Netflix, which will distribute the show outside the UK.

Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis’ Sherlock has been a big success for the BBC, with 4 series and a Christmas special produced.

Dracula appears to be following the same format, with 3 feature-length episodes initially being broadcast.

You can catch up with Sherlock on Netflix now.
