Taboo could run for 3 seasons, says writer

Taboo writer has some big plans for the period drama.

BBC 1's period drama Taboo could run for 3 seasons or more, writer Steven Knight has claimed.

The drama, starring Tom Hardy, follows the escapades of James Delaney, who returns to London from Africa to inherit his father's trade business and tackle an ever-mounting list of enemies.

Writer of the show, Steven Knight, claimed in an interview with the Radio Times that he aims for the show to run for 3 seasons or more.

“We think it has got a two and a three certainly, that's the plan. After that who knows? This series is eight parts – it's a lot of time."

Taboo has only aired its first 2 episodes so far but is already receiving critical acclaim thanks to Hardy's intense performance and the gritty setting.

The show is a joint project between the BBC and US network FX, meaning it airs on both simultaneously.

Steve Knight's other show, Peaky Blinders, is about to undergo the filming of its 4th season.

Another co-production for the BBC, Peaky Blinders has been widely successful, with a number of high-profile fans such as Snoop Dogg.

The show has already been commissioned for a 5th season, with Knight claiming that it might be its last.

“Never say never, but we feel that [season] five may be the last.

“We don't know for sure. We will see how we feel about it. Peaky is one of those things everybody loves, and the response has been so magnificent on both sides of the Atlantic.”

You can catch Taboo on Saturday nights at 9pm on BBC 1.
