The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series in the works at Amazon
It will follow a brand new story that's not related to any of the books or films.
A series revolving around the The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo character Lisbeth Salander is in development at Amazon.
Currently also titled The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, it won’t serve as an adaptation or a continuation of the story from any of the books or films.
The series will instead bring Salander into the present day with a whole new cast of characters and tell a standalone story “that will resonate with fans of the original and thrill a whole new generation” according to Amazon.
A star, director or writer has yet to be attached to the project.
Computer hacker Salander is one of the lead characters in Swedish author Steig Larsson’s best-selling Millennium trilogy which follows her and investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist’s attempts to uncover a dark criminal web.
Larsson had planned to write further entries in the series but unfortunately suffered a fatal heart attack in 2004. David Lagercrantz officially took over in 2015 and has so far published three more installments.
All three books were adapted into successful films in Sweden and starred Noomi Rapace as Salander. David Fincher’s acclaimed 2011 english language adaptation saw Rooney Mara take over the role followed by Claire Foy in 2018’s underwhelming The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
