The Leftovers gets season 3 air date, new trailer
The cult supernatural thriller will return in April.
HBO has revealed that the final season of The Leftovers will air on April 16th.
The US network's cult supernatural thriller imagines a world where 2% of the world's population has mysteriously disappeared.
The third and final season sees the action head to Australia, where the characters will finally come to terms with what has happened.
Creator of the show, Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost) said that the decision to move the setting to Australia was a natural one.
“Australia is the end of the world geographically and our show is about the end-of-the-world emotionally.
“And there's also something about Australian cinema - it's primal, ancient and spiritual - that felt like it fit The Leftovers, whether it's Mad Max movies or Walkabout, or Waking Fright or Peter Weir movies.”
A new trailer was released alongside the airing announcement, which sees the characters looking up to the sky as a message shows up saying “The end is near”.
The Leftovers has an eclectic cast of stars including Christopher Eccleston, Justin Theroux, Scott Glenn and Amy Brenneman.
The show airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, and is expected to come to the channel shortly after the US premiere.
