The Old Guard 2 to begin filming in 2022
The action film was a massive hit for Netflix last year so it's not surprise a sequel was quickly greenlit.
Charlize Theron has revealed when the sequel to Netflix's The Old Guard will begin filming.
Speaking during an interview with Variety, the Academy-Award winner said that now the script is complete, production is currently slated to begin in the first three months of 2022.
She also confirmed that alongside her immortal mercenary Andy, Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli are also set to reprise their roles as Nicky and Joe respectively.
While nothing else is officially known about this sequel, which is simply titled Old Guard 2, it’s thought that Gina Prince-Bythewood will once again sit in the director’s chair.
Main cast members Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Veronica Ngo are also all expected to return.
Based on Greg Rucka’s comic book of the same name, The Old Guard premiered on Netflix on 10th July 2020.
It received generally positive reviews from critics and proved immensely popular with subscribers. According to the streaming giant, it was watched by a staggering 78 million households within its first month of release.
Rucka, who also wrote the first film, has previously said that he envisioned The Old Guard as a trilogy so if this second entry is anywhere near as successful as the first, fans should definitely expect to see more.
