The Orville renewed for season 3

The Orville is blasting back for a third outing.

Sci-fi series The Orville has been renewed by Fox.

The series, which is a proto-parody/homage of Star Trek, was created by Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth McFarlane, who also stars.

The Orville takes place on the titular starship and follows a crew of humans and aliens as they explore the galaxy.

The series ratings have not been great for this season, despite it critically being acclaimed by many sci-fi fans, making the renewal a surprise for some.

Despite the waning ratings, The Orville still managed to bring in more viewers than Gotham, which broadcast its final season earlier this year.

The series also did better than a number of cancelled shows, such as Lethal Weapon and Proven Innocent

The fact that The Orville is more of an homage than a straight parody of Star Trek might have contributed to its ratings drop, with many fans expecting a straight comedy from the Family Guy creator.

You’ll be able to watch The Orville season 3 when it drops on NOW TV Entertainment.
