The Walking Dead’s Chief Creative Officer Scott Gimple has teased the possibility of fan favourite character Michonne (Danai Gurira) receiving her own spinoff film.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Gimple admitted that while there were currently no plans in place to develop one it’s definitely a project he’d like to see happen.

"With the films, we definitely have plans. But even beyond the current plans, I have some ambitions," he said.

"I love her and Rick together, but I love seeing her as the pure lead on her own, too. It just so happens that there's a lot of story terrain to cover. But you're right: it's ambitions. Right now, the plans have to do with the feature film."

After joining the cast in season 3, Gurira exited the show in its most recent episode leaving The Survivors to track down former partner Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) after discovering that he'd survived the explosion six years ago.

Last year, it was confirmed that Lincoln will star in his own currently untitled trilogy of Walking Dead films.

Not too much is currently known about this film series but Gimple has also hinted toward Michonne potentially making an appearance.

"Is it fair to assume? It's definitely fair to assume that," he said later in the interview.

The show’s official Twitter account confirmed yesterday that the season 10 finale will be delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak which has meant its creative team were unable to finish post-production.

The upcoming 15th episode will serve as the season finale for now until the official episode airs sometime later in the year.
