The X-Files is returning for season 11

The X-Files is once again returning to screens, FOX today announced.

The legendary sci-fi thriller series returned last year for what most thought would be a one-off season, but is now due to return once again.

FOX announced the new season via its website, claiming that the 11th season of the show would expand to 10 episodes rather than then 6 of the previous.

Both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will reprise their roles as FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, with series creator Chris Carter once again executive producing.

The X-Files started in 1993 and follows 2 FBI agents as they solve supernatural mysteries and government conspiracies.

The series returned last year after a 15-year hiatus for what FOX called an “Event Series”. Fans had assumed that it would be the last we saw of the series due to mixed reviews from critics.

President of FOX, David Madden, said that the network was excited to continue the story of The X-Files.

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide.

“Chris' creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can't wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

You can catch up with all 10 seasons of The X-Files now on Amazon Prime Video.
