Tim Burton to direct Wednesday Addams series for Netflix
This will be his TV directorial debut.
Tim Burton is to direct a new live-action series centred on Wednesday Addams for Netflix.
Simply titled Wednesday, it’s described as a “supernaturally infused mystery” consisting of eight episodes which will see her as a student at the “peculiar” Nevermore Academy.
It’ll chronicle “Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body”
The show was created by Smallville’s Al Gough and Miles Millar who will also serve as co-showrunners alongside Burton.
A cast or potential release date for Wednesday have yet to be announced.
Christina Ricci played a younger Wednesday Addams in the two well received live-action Addams Family films from the early 1990s which also starred Angelica Houston and Raul Julia.
“When we first heard Al Gough and Miles Millar’s pitch for Wednesday we were struck, like an arrow from a crossbow, right in our hearts. They nailed the tone, the spirit and the characters, but gave us a fresh way into this story,” said Teddy Biaselli, Netflix's Director of Original Series.
“As Wednesday stans, my team and I feel an inherent responsibility to get this truly one-of-a-kind character right for both old fans and new. We’re confident this talented group will do her justice as she prepares for the dreaded underworld known as adulthood.”
