Tim Spall to star in Channel 4 sci-fi Electric Dreams

The veteran actor will return to the small screen this year.

Timothy Spall is due to star in a new Channel 4 sci-fi show based on the works of Philip K Dick.

Electric Dreams is a 10-part anthology series that's based on short stories from legendary sci-fi author Philip K Dick.

Spall is due to appear in the first episode, titled The Commuter, which follows a train station employee who discovers that a number of passengers are taking a train to a place that shouldn't exist.

The episode was written by This is England's Jack Thorne and directed by Peaky Blinders' Tom Harper. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child star Anthony Boyle will also be joining Spall as part of the cast.

Electric Dreams is being produced by Moonshot Entertainment - a production company started by Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston.

Whilst it's not yet known what the other episodes will entail, a number of high-profile TV talent is onboard to write and direct, including Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D Moore, The Night Manager's David Farr and Justified's Michael Dinner.

The stories of Philip K Dick have a long history of TV and film adaptations, with films such as Blade Runner and Total Recall and TV shows like The Man in the High Castle all being adaptations of his work.

Filming on Electric Dreams started on the 21st of March, with the show expected to air on Channel 4 later on this year.
