Westworld season 2 filming temporarily suspended
Season 2 has been halted mid-shoot.
The filming for the second season of Westworld has been suspended on a temporary basis.
The show was in the middle of filming its second season when the shoot was suspended, with HBO claiming in a statement that an actor suffered a medical emergency.
“Due to a medical emergency involving a performer in a recurring role on season 2 of Westworld, filming on one of the two units has been temporarily suspended. The cast member was not on set when this occurred, and out of respect for the performer's privacy, we have no additional details to share, other than that everyone at Westworld sincerely hopes for a quick recovery.”
HBO's assurance that the health issue was nothing to do with the filming is encouraging, with filming of both Deadpool 2 and The Walking Dead seeing fatalities during stunt work this year.
The new suggests that the season season will therefore be delayed well into 2018, with an October release date not unlikely.
The first season of Westworld was also significantly delayed, but this was for creative reasons based around scripts rather than problems with the actor's' health.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Westworld, with the first season going down well with viewers and critics alike.
Westworld is a gritty TV adaptation of Michael Crichton's 1973 film, where robots in a realistic Western-themed theme park go nuts and start killing off the punters after becoming self-aware.
The series has taken the premise and expanded it, adding plenty of HBO-style violence and sexual content as well as “deep” themes about the meaning of humanity.
