X-Files won’t continue without Gillian Anderson

The series has no plans to continue without Scully.

The X-Files won't continue without Gillian Anderson, FOX has confirmed.

The TV network, which produces The X-Files, confirmed that the series would end unless Anderson reversed her decision to not appear in the series after season 11.

In a recent interview, FOX chairman and CEO Dana Walden said that the network wasn't completely giving up and would still consider more seasons of the show in the future.

“I think you could have asked Chris, David or Gillian at various times since the show originally went off the air and some days you'd get a yes, some days you'd get a no. They've done two additional seasons. I would not foreclose the possibility that in the future there could be more. Not only are there no plans [right now], but there hasn't been a single conversation about it.”

The X-Files made its TV debut in 1993 and follows 2 FBI agents as they track paranormal and extraterrestrial mysteries. The show is one of the most beloved sci-fi properties ever, with Anderson being the one constant it has had from the beginning.

The series returned in 2016 with both Anderson and Duchovny, with the 11th season recently beginning its run.

Fan reception to the new seasons has so far been mixed, with the series' overly complicated arc returning to force everyone to remember plot points from 1998.

It will now be interesting to see how the rest of season 11 progresses and whether it will provide a definitive ending.

You can watch all 10 current seasons of The X-Files on Amazon Prime right now.
