The Sky Q 1TB and 2TB boxes both allow you to access popular apps like Netflix, YouTube and Spotify, so you can stream your favourite songs, browse the latest viral videos, and enjoy acclaimed originals alongside the great content in your Sky TV deal. 

How do I download apps on Sky Q?

You don’t actually need to download any apps onto your Sky Q box. 

All of the available apps can be found under the Apps heading which you can access by going to the homepage and scrolling down through the options on the left side of the screen.

Is it free to download apps on Sky Q?

When a new app like Disney+ is added to Sky Q it should just automatically appear alongside the others. 

If you can’t find a new app that you know is supposed to be there, you should check to see if your Sky Q box is running the latest software update. 

  • Scroll down to the settings tab and then select system info > software version
  • Choose setup and then software download
  • You’ll see the message "software update successful” when it has completed, you should then restart your Sky Q box
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to finish

 

Is there a Sky Q app for Smart TVs?

Sky shutdown the Sky Q app last year but you can find the same functionality within the Sky Go app. This is only available on smartphones, tablets, PC/Macs and games consoles however.

Is there a Netflix app for Sky Q?

The Netflix app is available on Sky Q so you can stream its extensive library of popular films and series on your TV. 

New and existing Sky Q customers have the choice of either keeping their Netflix subscription payments separate or incorporating them into your monthly Sky bill by purchasing the Sky Ultimate TV add-on.

Sky Ultimate TV gets you the basic Netflix subscription, which means you can stream in SD to one device at a time, and better integrates the service into its interface. 

You’ll find recommendations for content on Netflix alongside those for Sky shows and can resume what you’ve been watching on Netflix from the Sky Q homepage without having to open up the app.

Is there an Amazon Prime app for Sky Q?

The Amazon Prime app currently isn’t available on Sky Q.

Is there a YouTube app for Sky Q?

You’ll find the YouTube app on Sky Q with the rest under the Apps heading. You can start browsing straight away or sign into your account to get access to all of your different subscriptions and playlists. 

The YouTube app on your smartphone or tablet can be used to cast videos to your Sky Q box. Simply tap the cast icon in the top right corner of the YouTube app on your device and then select your Sky Q box from the list presented. 

The YouTube Kids app is also available on Sky Q which offers a more family-friendly version of the platform that’s much easier to use and has automated filters in place to block out unsuitable content.

What other apps can I get with Sky Q?

Other apps available on Sky Q include:

Is there a Sky Q app for iOS or Android? 

The Sky Q app no longer exists and has instead been replaced by Sky Go. Sky Go is free to all Sky TV customers and allows you to stream certain live and on demand content from your deal along with your recordings to your smartphone, tablet, games console or PC/Mac. 

There’s also Sky Go Extra which is available for an additional £5 a month or for free for those who purchase Sky Multiroom. With this upgrade, you can stream to two devices simultaneously and download content for offline viewing so you don’t have to rely on patchy public wifi or let streaming eat up your data.
