The OA creators reunite for new mystery series at FX
The show will be set at a retreat where a murderer is on the loose.
US network FX has ordered a new limited series Retreat from the creators of The OA Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij.
The pair will both write and direct this new mystery drama with Marling set to star as an amatuer Gen-Z detective named Darby Hart who is invited to a retreat in a “remote and dazzling location.”
“When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must fight to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life,” reads the synopsis.
This is the duo’s first TV series since Netflix’s beloved cult series The OA was cancelled two years ago in August 2019.
“Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij have delivered a suspenseful story that updates the classic mystery genre with a bold new character for our times,” said Gina Balian, president of originals at FX.
“We are thrilled that Brit and Zal and the rest of the creative team will bring this series to life with their unique points of view and care.”
With elements of fantasy, sci-fi, mystery and the supernatural, The OA followed Prairie Johnson (Marling) who suddenly reappears after having disappeared 7 years ago now mysteriously cured of her blindness.
Despite an extensive fan campaign to save the show, which included plenty of Twitter activity, the purchase of a digital billboard in Times Square and even an American woman going on hunger strike outside Netflix’s LA HQ, it has so far stayed dead.
You can stream both seasons of The OA on Netflix now.
