Squid Game to return for season 2

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has said he's in the "planning process" for the next outing of the wildly successful show.

Netflix's immensely popular South Korean series Squid Game will return for a second season, its creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed.

“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season,” he said to news site Associated Press. “I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say, there will indeed be a second season.”

Hwang said he’s currently in the “planning process” with the idea “in his head right now” meaning it’ll likely be quite a while before more episodes appear.

“I do think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen. So I will promise you this… Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will come back, he’ll do something for the world.”

Released in its entirety on 17th September, the dystopian Squid Game has gone on to become the streaming giant’s most popular TV series ever.

Also starring Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su and Anupam Tripathi, it follows a group of cash-strapped individuals as they compete in a series of deadly children’s games for a huge cash prize.

It’s been watched by a staggering 142 million households worldwide, surpassing the previous record set by Shonda Rhimes’ steamy period drama Bridgerton

The first season of Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix now.
