Usyk vs Dubois: History
Usyk and Dubois are both accomplished fighters but at different stages in their careers. Usyk, at 38 years old, likely has only a couple more fights left if he decides to carry on after Saturday.
He has been at the forefront of the cruiserweight division in the past, being an undisputed champion in that division before moving up to heavyweight and becoming the same. He has essentially led the heavyweight division for the past fours years since sensationally defeating Anthony Joshua in a fight no-one expected him to take.
In the other corner, Dubois is beginning to stake his claim as ‘next up’. At 27 years old, Dubois has already had 24 fights, winning 22 of them with 21 by knockout, including his most recent victory, another shocker result against Joshua.
The pair are no stranger to one another, having previously fought in 2023 for Usyk’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles. Usyk claimed the win via ninth-round knockout, although it came with some controversy.
In the fifth round, Usyk went down off a gut punch from Dubois, a hit that the ref would call a low blow. Usyk was given time to recover and eventually would go on to win. Dubois claims it was a legal hit and many debate it heavily to this day. If it had been called a legal hit, it would’ve been the first time Usyk had been knocked down in his career.
Usyk vs Dubois 2: What’s at stake?
Just like in their first match, Usyk has the most gold being put up. But this time, Dubois has some of his own as he currently holds the IBF title, which he won after defeating Filip Hergovic in 2024 for the vacant belt - previously vacated by Usyk.
Its former owner is looking to add it back to his collection after he was stripped of the title shortly following his first victory over Tyson Fury for the undisputed crown in May 2024.
In total, here are the titles that will be on the line:
- WBA world heavyweight (Usyk)
- WBC world heavyweight (Usyk)
- WBO world heavyweight (Usyk)
- IBF world heavyweight (Dubois)
- IBO world heavyweight (Usyk)
- The Ring Magazine heavyweight title (Usyk)
